Community Mesh Network, resilient by design

NomadNet will connect villages and valleys across the Alpujarras with a privacy‑first, peer‑to‑peer mesh using Meshcore. MeshCore is a multi platform system for enabling secure text based communications utilizing LoRa radio hardware. It can be used for Off-Grid Communication, Emergency Response & Disaster Recovery, Outdoor Activities and also IoT sensor networks.

“Off-line and Off-grid messaging platform for a new era of secure communications”

Live pilot scheme now running between Lanjarón and Órgiva

Indicative coverage based on current repeater placements. Actual range varies with terrain and device antennas.

What makes Meshcore different

For all information related to the Meshcore project, please visit www.meshcore.co.uk.

True mesh topology

Nodes interconnect in multiple directions. If one link fails, traffic routes around it automatically.

Local‑first services

Messaging, file sharing and community apps run within the mesh, so they keep working even if the internet drops.

Privacy by default

End‑to‑end encryption between nodes; no central data collection. Your traffic stays within the community where possible.

Open hardware & software

Built on affordable, off‑the‑shelf radios and open tooling. Easy to repair, extend, and audit.

Self‑healing routing

Automatic link quality sensing and path selection keep latency low and reliability high across rugged terrain.

Community‑owned

Run by neighbours for neighbours. Transparent governance and shared maintenance keep costs sustainable.

Benefits for the Alpujarras

Connectivity where it’s needed

  • Links between cortijos, fincas and remote hamlets
  • Coverage tailored to valleys and ridgelines
  • Internet backhaul optional; local mesh works offline

Resilience during outages

  • Local apps keep working during ISP or power faults
  • Battery/solar‑friendly nodes for extended autonomy

Fair and transparent

  • Clear contribution model for hardware and upkeep
  • Open metrics and status dashboards

Built for people, not just devices

  • Neighbour messaging, bulletin boards, event updates
  • Education and skill‑sharing around networking

Join the Network

Repeaters are now active between select sites near Lanjarón and Órgiva. They also cover some of the Lecrin valley. Coverage expands as new nodes come online.

Are you interested in joining the mesh? You will need to purchase a LoRa radio from the MeshCore Supported Devices list.

Quick Connect — Radio Settings (EU/UK · Narrow) - Use these preset settings to connect to the network:

Frequency 869.618 MHz
Spreading Factor 5
Bandwidth 62.5 kHz
Coding Rate 8
TX Power 22 dBm

Planned coverage end-Oct25

Join as a Companion Node

Intended role for end-user devices which provide an interface via the phone or web app (via Bluetooth or USB). Computer or IOS and Android mobile apps.

Host a Repeater

Nodes in this role extend the range of a MeshCore Network. High‑point roofs and masts dramatically improve reach. A small solar panel (A3 size) is often enough to run these cheap units.

Room Server

Turns the node into a simple BBS server for sharing posts. Room servers store message history on them and push the stored messages to users. Room servers allow roaming users to come back later and retrieve message history.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an internet replacement?

No. Meshcore provides local connectivity first using text messaging via LoRa radios

What hardware do you use?

Affordable, off‑the‑shelf point‑to‑point and sector radios with open firmware where possible. It prioritises low power and easy maintenance.

Cheapest place to buy from we have found to be Ali Express

Is my traffic private?

Yes. Links are encrypted and avoid any central logging.

What does it cost to join?

Nothing to join but you will need to purchase some cheap LoRa radios.
